February is already beginning to prove to be a busy month! We just signed a rental agreement to a 10 x 20 gallery | studio space in Palmer | Modern Gallery & Studios. It's on Lime Avenue just north of Fruitville Road in the new Sarasota arts district that is unfolding here! We plan to be there throughout the week as both a mobil office space, studio space for finishing pieces, and gallery space.
One of the first friends I made in this area was Craig Palmer. He, too, had left his previous job to pursue art full-time. Plus, he had just remodeled his mid-century home here with his wife, which is what we are hoping to do with our own home. From the very beginning we hit it off and became fast friends.
Then last year he had an opportunity to spearhead a new gallery / studio remodel for a rental space with a local investor who has a
heart to provide affordable spaces for artists. Knowing I was struggling to find a place to create, he approached me about joining in and renting a space. At first I was hesitant, since I plan to build my own studio. But for whatever reason things are just taking quite a while to get going at our own place. Needless to say we soon saw the value of getting some traffic to see my work and are now in the very heart of a very vibrant artist community that is becoming a hotspot for the locals here. I am so grateful.
So, if you are ever in the area, the studios in this space and in the surrounding buildings are open Thursday-Saturday, in addition to, the art walks every 2nd Saturday of the month.
And.... You are officially INVITED to my first Sarasota Artists Open Studios event!
